Insights From My Writing...
Control Your Thoughts
"For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ..." (II Corinthians 10:3-5)
God has all the instruction I need to learn about how to use my mind against the terror of Satan. Daily I am bombarded by a multitude of thoughts. God tells me to bring every thought into captivity. I need to take control. How? I need to test every thought against the revelation knowledge of God. If it doesnít fit, I need to discard that thought immediately and replace it with an appropriate principle from Godís Word.
I cannot replace inappropriate thoughts with the correct principles unless I know Godís Word! I must realize that my mind is Satanís battlefield, and he is constantly engaged in guerrilla warfare. Imagine that! No wonder I must take those thoughts captive and test them against Godís Word. I must get as tough as Satan. If those thoughts in the battlefield of my mind are evil or corrupt, I must throw them out.
Two things seem to be a result of not knowing the craftiness of Satan. He has learned that many Christians sit back and wait for some external force to motivate them, and many Christians believe Satan when he reminds them of things they did in the past. What can I do about this?
I need to believe God that I must keep my mind active and control my thoughts. I will receive revelation and I need to act on that even though others around me may be passive. And about the past: I have memories that I donít like to think about. Satan loves to remind me of them. However, God tells me to forget what is behind and move on to the glorious life He wants me to have each day.
"Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 3:13-14). (From "Renewing Your Mind", Chapter 6, by Peter Wade, adapted by Hildy Matthews.)
Affirmation:I keep my mindís eye on the target and I disregard Satanís recounting of my past. Today I move on to enjoy the day without thoughts of the past or condemnation. I am victorious today!

Insights from Every Chapter in the Bible
G. Campbell Morgan was a well-known preacher and writer of over 60 books from the first half of the 20th century. In each issue he gives a comment from one verse in every chapter of the Bible. We continue with Paul's letter to the Romans.
"Who in hope believed against hope" (Romans 4:18).
That account of Abraham's mental attitude, as the result of the promise of God to him, is also a description of the experience of all those who live by faith in Him. Hope is always the expectation of good things to come, with a corresponding activity toward the realization of them. There can be no hope where there are no grounds of expectation. To Abraham there were no grounds of expectation in circumstances that he should have an heir. They absolutely denied the possibility. Nevertheless he hoped. Upon what grounds? Those of "the promise of God." To the man who believed in God, they were sufficient; and therefore he hoped, that is, he expected that the thing would happen, and he ordered his life accordingly.
That is the very genius of the life of faith. All the great things for which we look are impossible things by the standards of circumstances. If we compute the possibilities of realization upon the basis of things seen, ours is the most hopeless of enterprises. For the bringing to birth of the new order, man is dead, and woman is barren. But if we reckon with God, then we are the most hopeful of all men. He has promised, and no word of His can be void of power. Therefore we hope against hope. When there is no ground for expectation in circumstances, we find it in God; and thus with jubilant songs we cheer the night, and journey toward the Day of God.
